Abstract: In the process of automated tape laying (ATL), tack and drape are two characteristics that describe the suitability of prepreg for lay-up. Tack and drape researched individually can help us understand placement suit-ability of prepreg better. This paper aims at tack of prepreg. Firstly, physical meaning of prepreg's tack was dis-cussed. Secondly, The existing measurement and characterization methods of prepreg's tack were summarized and using“average peeling force”quantitatively characterizing the tack of prepreg was proposed. Finally, influences of the main processing parameters of ATL, such as out time, lay-up pressure, lay-up velocity, hot-air temperature etc.on prepreg's tack were researched on the test platform which was constructed by ourselves. The experimental results indicate that the tack increases first and then decreases with out time, while increases with higher pressure of lay-up, higher temperature of hot-air and lower velocity of lay-up in the range of concentrations. The research provides a reference for the control of the processing parameters of ATL.
