Abstract:

Hollow glass microspheres are used as a key material to produce syntactic foams.Surface modification of the microspheres is very important for improving properties of the foams. However, few researches are focused on effects of process of surface modification on properties of the microspheres, which would influence the properties of the foams. In the present work,We studied the effects through measuring particle density and crush strength of microspheres, based on the production of microspheres. The results showed that particle density of microspheres reduced with increasing time and acidity of aqueous solution since water erode glass shell. At the same time, broken ratio increased.Aqueous solution of Al2(SO4)3 could increase crush strength because of formation of new film on surface of the microspheres.
