Abstract: In this paper, two kinds of composite materials reinforced with different fabric structures were designed and developed. Based on this new multi-layered multi-directional angle-knitted structure, the damage evolution mechanism of the warp and weft loaded specimens and its correlation with the fabric structure were systematically characterized through multiaxial mechanical testing (tension, compression and in-plane shear), combined with digital image correlation (DIC) technology and failure interface micro-topography analysis. Experimental data show that three-dimensional multi-directional woven composites made from different fabric structures have different effects on their mechanical properties due to different volume content and aggregation state of internal load-bearing fibers. Composites with a higher volume content of load-bearing fibers and a concentrated distribution structure exhibited significantly improved mechanical performance.
