Abstract: This paper explores isophthalic acid and terephthalic acid based unsaturated polyester resins and the role of reduced styrene content (VOC) on the corrosion performance in gasoline/alcohol and reference fuel C/alcohol mixtures. Various studies conducted with ASTM C581 and UL1316 test methods conclude that the terephthalic resins provide superior performance over isophthalic resins. A new low styrene TPA based resin meets the "All Fuels" requirement of UL1316.

Key words: terephthalic polymer, isophthalic polymer, underground gasoline storage tank, gasoline alcohol blends, FRP, molecular weight, anti-corrosion resin
