Abstract: This paper studied the mechanical properties of the basalt reinforced polypropylene composite, prepared four kinds of the fiber-reinforced composite materials that basalt fiber content were 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%, and analyzed the influence of fiber content on the tensile and flexural properties of composites. Research shows that: basalt fiber is helpful to improve the tensile and bending properties of the composites, but the elongation at break decreased; With the increase of the basalt fiber content, the tensile strength and tensile modulus was first increased and then decreased when the fiber content of 30% up to a maximum; the flexural strength and modulus increases with increasing of fiber content. The flexural strength and modulus had the same tendency with the tensile properties.
