Abstract: The effect of salvation and suspending medium of PEG200, PEG400, PEG/Gl on the rheological properties of shear thickening fluid (STF) were studied with a rheometer. The results show that single suspending medium on the thickening effect are better than compound suspending medium. Compared with the critical shear rates, they showed PEG400<PEG200<SiO2/PEG400/Gl<SiO2/PEG200/Gl, so the larger PEG molecular weight with single dispersing medium, the better shear thickening effect has. In addition, with higher mass faction of SiO2, the shear thickening effect is more obvious. Therefore, under small shear rate the high mass faction can be chosen to get better thickening effect.
