RESEARCH ON ANTI-FAILURE PROPERTIES OF VECTRAN FABRIC COMPOSITES

Abstract: To find out the anti-failure properties of Vectran fabric composites, this paper mainly studied the tensile, tearing, impact and abrasion properties of Vectran fabric(uncoated Vectran fabric and coated Vectran fabric), and analyzed the influence of coating process on Vectran fabric. The result shows: Vectran fabric has a low mass and high tensile strength, slippage and breakage of fiber are the main failure mode for the uncoated fabric, while fiber breakage is the main failure mode for the coated fabric. Because of the decrescence of the tear trigonum, the tear force of Vectran fabric is dramatically dropt down after being coated. The impact resistance of coated Vectran fabric is strongly low compared with Vectran fabric. The abrasion property of Vectran fabric is excellent, abrasive dust is uneasy to occur.
