Abstract: Effective analysis and evaluation of the composite structural mechanics is based on accurate measurement of the composite engineering parameters. By measuring the strain characteristic of the composite structure using the technology of embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG),the engineering parameters such as elastic modulus and Poisson ratio are obtained. In this paper, the result of the measurement by FBGs is compared with that of extensometer and electrical strain gauges, proving the reliability and availability of FBG. Then the Poisson ratio of the composite specimen is measured by embedded transverse and longitudinal FBGs,the result is compared with that of strain gauges. The comparisons of the results show that FBGs is more sensitive and steady than strain gauges.
