Abstract: Both of heat distortion temperature (THD) and glass transition temperature (Tg) are commonly used to characterize heat resistance of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin matrix composites (GFRP) in lots of engineering design and applications. In this study, the suitable method of testing THD of GFRP were established by selecting experimental approaches. The effects of curing systems and curing conditions of resins, different fabric pattern of reinforcement and fiber content of GFRP on their THD and Tg are studied. The correlation between THD and Tg of GFRP and its matrix resin was investigated. The initial temperature of glass transition Tg,G′i and the final temperature of the glass transition Tg,G′f by the curve of storage modulus vs. temperature are defined to be applied in manufacturing, inspecting and engineering application of GFRP.
