Lightweight design and manufacturing of carbon fiber reinforced composite web for face gear

Abstract: As an important component of mechanical transmission systems, the lightweight design of the gear is of great significance in improving overall transmission efficiency and reducing energy consumption. In response to the lightweight requirements of helicopter gear transmission system, a composite web structure was designed for face gear using carbon fiber composite replacing high-strength steel in this paper. Based on equivalent design and finite element analysis, the design of key structural parameters for the carbon fiber reinforced composite web was completed. Different sizes of carbon fiber prepregs were designed by dividing the structural area, and the manufacture of variable thickness carbon fiber composite web has been realized. Under the condition of satisfying the requirements of structural strength and stiffness, the weight reduction of the entire gear reached 10.48%. The research work provides scientific basis and technical support for the lightweight design and manufacturing of gear web.
