Abstract: The composite sandwich panels with GFRP face sheets and a foam-web core (GFFW panels) have been widely used in the structural engineering. However, It is well known that there is lack of the effective optimal design of composite sandwich members. In order to address this issue, an optimal design method was established to decrease the construction cost in this study by the use of genetic algorithms. Finally, compared to the existing GFFW panels, the construction cost of GFFW panel optimized via genetic algorithms exhibits much more economic efficiency.
