Abstract: The HM40-3K carbon fiber produced by the foreign company and the BSCHM40-3K carbon fiber made by China were selected as research objective. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) was applied to characterize the surface morphologies and roughness of these carbon fibers. The contact angle, surface energy and wettability of the two type fibers were investigated by surface tension-meter. Experiment of HM40-3K/epoxy resin TDE-86 and BSCHM40-3K/epoxy resin TDE-86 bleeders′ system to analysis the epoxy resin content of the products. The experimental results showed that the wettability was closely related to the tow size of carbon fiber, contact angle, surface energy and the polar components of surface energy. The wettability was increased with the tow size of carbon fiber and rose from the surface energy and the polar components of surface energy. In addition, the wettability became better by decreasing the contact angle. As a result, the better of the wettability, the epoxy resin was more difficult to absorb by bleeder materials. According to the resin content′s formula of the HM40-3K/epoxy resin TDE-86, the formula of the BHM3-3K/epoxy resin TDE-86 was summarized and an important rule supporting this formula was found.
