Abstract: Advanced composite material has been widely used in the aviation and aerospace fields due to its advantages of lightweight, superior mechanical performance and outstanding designability. This paper reviewed the development history of composite materials in the application of aircraft structures. The progress and development trend of four key technologies of advanced composites were discussed, including structural design, raw materials, manufacturing processes, and performance evaluation. In addition, as the new generation materials, carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced nanocomposite and its potential application in aircrafts, especially CNT assemblies with high CNT content were introduced.
